Collection consists of accounts, receipts, bills, and correspondence pertaining to Silas Peirce & Co,, a wholesale grocer in Boston, Masschusetts, with branch locations in Portsmouth, NH and Portland, ME. Founded by Silas Peirce in 1815, the company remained in business for 111 years. The bulk of the collection deals with the purchase of items for resale; railroad company receipts and receipts from other buisinesses for the sale of coffee, brandy, wine, tea, and oil are represented in the collection. Railroad company receipts also provide information about shipping of product to Silas Peirce & Co. and to its clients.
